FAQ – Volunteer Communication
Free Spirit Gathering has several different resources for volunteers to communicate with each other while preparing for the festival. Here’s a list of all the resources and what they are:
Zoom
FSG volunteer meetings are held periodically throughout the year. These meetings are used to get everyone on the same page, and also to help address issues that are quickly addressed. Information on Meetings is posted to the FSG-Staff groups.io group (discussed later).
Discord
Our most recent resource is the Free Spirit Gathering Discord server! Discord is a free voice, video, and text chat platform that lets people create communities (called servers) to connect, share, and communicate in real time. There are channels for all attendees, and private channels for volunteers, and departments if they request them. Discord has been very popular during the festival.

Groups.io
Groups.io is an online platform for creating and managing email-based discussion groups and communities. It combines the simplicity of traditional mailing lists with modern features such as searchable message archives, shared files, wikis, calendars, and integration with tools like Slack, GitHub, and Trello. Designed to be privacy-conscious and free of advertising, Groups.io gives group owners strong administrative controls while providing members with flexible options for how they receive and interact with messages. It’s widely used by hobbyist clubs, professional organizations, and communities that want a reliable, centralized place to collaborate and stay connected.
Free Spirit Gathering has public groups open to everyone, and private groups available to volunteers. these groups are used for announcements, and longer range discussions as well.
Groups.io groups can be accessed via email, or via the web. Below is a list of our current sent of groups, their web page, and email addresses.
Please note that if you subscribe to any of the lists below, it will require approval from someone at FSG before you can begin to post/read to that group.
